🙏Temple of the Tooth 🙏
I live in Kandy. So the Temple of the Tooth is a familiar place to me. We visit there at least once a month. It has become our custom to go there and receive blessing before every good deed in the house.
The temple of the Tooth is the temple where
the relics of the Supreme Buddha are kept.
According to popular belief from ancient
times, the person in charge of the Tooth
Relic should be the king of the country.
Due to this the kings of the past protected
the Tooth Relic with their lives.
King Wimaladharmasuriya was the first
to build the Temple of the Tooth. The city
of Kandy, where the Temple of the Tooth
is located, has been declared a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO. The monks
of both Malwathu and Asgiri offer
daily offering to the Tooth Relic. This
sacrifice is performed three times a day.
The Nanumura festival is held on
Wednesday as a special offering
Here the Tooth Relic is symbolically
bathed in fragrant medicinal water.
The water obtained from this bath
is believe to have healing powers.
Surrounded by the Udawaththa jungle
to the east of Kandy, the Hanthana
mountain range on one side and
Bahirawa Kanda on the other, the
Kingdom of Kandy has a
mild climate.
